Capacity Builders’ Support Service Worker Certificate Program
The need for home support workers has never been more critical. Increased demand, along with existing workforce challenges related to recruitment and retention, has caused some community organizations to closely re-examine their needs and consider alternatives for clients who need minimal help with personal care.
To help ease the growing workforce challenges, Capacity Builders has developed a training program for organizations whose funders do not require them to hire only PSWs. It covers the fundamental knowledge and abilities required to support clients who do not need the range of support that a PSW can provide and for clients who can direct their own care.

Our Support Service Worker program is delivered in modules and is completely customizable. We can:
- embed the program into your onboarding process for new hires, or
- run it as a stand-alone course to enhance the skills of your existing workers

Precepted Practicum for New Hires
We know that many new workers have initial difficulty adjusting to community support and have challenges translating training to the actual work setting. Our program offers a precepted practicum to ensure the transition from classroom to community is successful. We blend the classroom sessions with the practicum so students can build confidence while trying out their new skills under the guidance of a trained preceptor. The program can be combined with an extended new hire orientation to ensure that abilities learned are applied in the work setting. If your organization does not already have a preceptorship program in place, we’ll train your more experienced workers and provide them with a Preceptor Certificate.
