Assessment Skills Training
The focus of this workshop is how to engage clients in the interview process; how to introduce clients to the assessment process and how to involve them in conversations that will yield information to complete the interRAI CHA assessment.
After this workshop, participants will have increased knowledge about the assessment process. Specifically:
Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their observation, clarifying, assessment and description skills.
The intended participants are community healthcare workers who have direct client contact. Unregulated health professionals (i.e. PSWs) are welcome to attend. Participants are strongly encouraged to take this workshop prior to enrolling in any interRAI CHA coding or CAPS training.
We can deliver this workshop:
- the characteristics of effective communication and an awareness of common barriers to communication ·the role of nonverbal behaviour in the assessment process
- therapeutic communication techniques
- interviewing, observing, and listening skills
- the communication practices in different cultures
- the importance of “speaking the client’s language”
- techniques for conflict resolution and dealing with challenging clients
