Do any of these scenarios sound familiar?

  • A recent program reorganization has resulted in staff taking on new roles. You thought the transition was going well, but today one of your reports tells you she is physically unable to perform her new role, and another confides that she feels she’s being harassed by her new co-worker.

  • Some days, you feel more like a referee than a supervisor.  Two of your staff members can’t be in a room together for more than a minute without quarreling, and you seem to have more than your fair share of demanding clients!  You do your best to intervene, but you wish you were more confident and skilled when dealing with conflict.

  • There just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done!  Even though you often work through lunch, your “to do” list somehow gets longer, not shorter, as the day goes on.  You’re stressed out, and you want to find a way to work smarter, not harder.

As an experienced supervisor, you’re responsible for the day-to-day performance of your team.  Most tasks are routine and you handle them well, but keeping up with new trends and dealing effectively with conflict can be daunting!  This 12-hour course will build on the skills you’ve already developed, and provide you with new strategies and approaches you can use as soon as you get back to the office.

During the course, we’ll use real-world examples and case scenarios from a not-for-profit human service setting perspective, and you'll have lots of opportunities to discuss your own specific supervisory challenges. This is a very interactive and participative course – be prepared to learn and share your ideas with your colleagues, as well as gain new information and abilities through the session activities.  A certificate will be awarded for those who successfully complete the course.

This course is intended for persons who have been in a supervisory role in a human service organization from two to ten years.
